down in an email and send it off. Listed below are topics that you might consider contributing to. This will be a POWERFUL
resource as it will be generated by the people who do what we do. If you have a favorite assessment strategy, rehearsal
techinque; classroom management technique, or others related to the topics below now is the time to share.
As your MMEA General Music VP K-5, I look forward to contributing and I look forward to seeing what YOU have to offer as well!

Dear Friend in Music,
We need your help!
We’re creating what we think will be an exciting and useful new product for music teachers K-8. We’d like your
input.
The new resource is tentatively titled “101 Great Ideas for Music Teachers K to 8 ” Subtitled: “From Motivational
to Inspirational”.
One of the greatest blessings of our career in music has been the opportunity we have had to meet many wonderful music teachers.
You have freely shared your ideas and dreams with us and in so doing have encouraged us to continue our quest to write materials
that will inspire and motivate students.
Given the great benefit that we have personally derived from our interaction with scores of talented teachers, it occurred
to us that all K-8 music educators would attain great benefit from the collective wisdom of these dedicated professionals.
It is with this in mind that we are undertaking the creation of what we anticipate will be a highly valued teaching resource.
Presently, we have not yet determined if this compendium will be offered in print and/or as a CD. Regardless of the ultimate
format, we are confident it will be a welcomed addition to every K-8 vocal music classroom.
We are therefore inviting our creative musical friends to submit to the Shawnee Press editorial staff their most effective
and or inspirational thoughts and ideas. This is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to benefit from the wisdom of music
education’s most successful and competent practitioners. Please familiarize yourself with the following and seriously
consider being a contributor to this worthwhile endeavor.
Teachers whose submissions have been selected for inclusion will be given credit for their contribution as well as one free
copy of the product and a one time 25% discount on an unlimited amount of Shawnee Press materials (all orders placed for this
special discount must be submitted directly to Shawnee Press. Details for ordering will be given if your ideas(s) are chosen).
Submissions related to the topical areas listed below, along with any others you feel appropriate, will be welcomed. We are
looking for “nuts and bolts” classroom ideas as well as inspirational thoughts. You are encouraged to offer one
of more contributions, however, it is essential that each individual item be limited to 500 words or less. Suggestions should
not endorse or promote a specific commercial product or publication.
- Tips on teaching skills.
- Classroom management ideas [behavior, grading, assessment, etc.]
- Motivational techniques
- Parent relations and the home school connection
- Maintaining a positive relationship with administrators
- Fund raising and budgeting
- Inspirational accounts of successful undertakings
- Rehearsal and performance preparation techniques
- Integrating music into the total curriculum
- Cooperative endeavors with classroom teachers
- Planning for the substitute teacher
- Writing lesson objectives based upon National Standards
Along with your submission please include: your address, phone, email, years teaching, college [advanced degrees], school/school
district, and grade levels taught. Some of your best ideas could be ones that you have used for years and subsequently have
taken for granted. If you carefully review what has worked, you will surely find some real gems that should be shared with
others. We hope you choose to participate in this exciting endeavor.
On or before April 30, 2007 please send your submissions to one of the following:
JandMSongs@Aol.com
or
Jill & Michael Gallina
P.O. Box 119
Gillette, NJ 07933
If you have any colleagues who may be interested in participating in this project, please share this information with them
as well. We look forward to hearing from you.
Your Friends in Music,
Jill & Michael Gallina
