Student Honor Plaque Order Form
FESTIVAL
STUDENTS:
It is
our pleasure to be preparing for the 57th annual Maine Music
Educators Association All State Festival. Dozens of volunteers have been
working for months to see that this is one of the most rewarding events of your
High School years, both musically and personally. This web page link is devoted
to the items we feel you need to be aware of and familiar with as you prepare
to arrive at the University of Southern Maine, Gorham on Thursday morning, May
19th. Please understand
that in hosting 430+ students, we are in a position where we must enforce every
regulation to the maximum degree. Consequently it is imperative that you - the
ones we are doing this for - become familiar with what those expectations are.
If you have any questions or concerns, please have your teacher(s) contact me
immediately via e-mail or my school phone.
We are
looking forward to seeing you and to serving you at this wonderful event!
Suzanne
Proulx,
Festival Chairperson

RULE #1 – READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE INFORMATION
AND RULES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FESTIVAL.
Failure to do so could result in an experience that is less than what it
should be, or worse. No rule or
stipulation exists without a reason, and all of them will be enforced with
absolute certainty.

STUDENT "MOVEMENT"
LIMITATIONS AT ALL-STATE...
We are
VERY SERIOUS and we just want to impress upon you ahead of time that under no
circumstances may any student leave at any time for any reason with anybody including your teacher or parent unless
specifically authorized by MMEA (meaning me). This is for liability purposes as
much as anything else, but itÕs also makes for common sense: no type of
"check out" system is going to work - accurately - when there are
this many students, and we have an obligation to know where every single one of
you is at any given moment. Your directors are responsible for assistance in
ÒchaperoningÓ, or checking up with you from time to time, but the moment you
set foot on campus, YOU ARE UNDER MMEA JURISDICTION, NOT YOUR TEACHERS'.
Consequently, they do not have permission to take you with them for any reason.
If you are found where you donÕt belong, even on campus, you will promptly be
removed from the Festival without any questions asked.
WHAT TO
BRING????????????
1---STUDENT BEDDING...
You
must bring your own towels, sheets, pillow, and blankets
-
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
2----BAND AND ORCHESTRA STUDENT EQUIPMENT...
ALL Instrumentalists:
please bring a good wire stand WITH YOUR NAME ON IT to All-State with you.
All
brass players must bring mutes if required in your music. Check with your director if you are not
sure what mute they are asking for.
Percussionists
should bring all sticks and mallets required to cover their parts. Bass drum, gong and specialty mallets
will be provided.
Everyone
should bring all necessary supplies, such as reeds, and DONÕT FORGET YOUR
PENCIL!!!
-
WHAT TO EXPECT UPON ARRIVING THURSDAY:
STUDENT FESTIVAL REGISTRATION,
DORM CHECK-IN AND ROOM INSPECTION...
When
you arrive with your Directors on Thursday, they will register you for the
Festival (please wait outside or in your bus/vehicle until you get the go-ahead
from your Director).
Those
of you with prescription medications will need to register with the nurse and
leave your meds with her. She will
be in the lobby between the girlsÕ and boysÕ dorms. After that they will bring you to your respective
dorms to register you there and you will be given your keys. They will have a
Room Inspection Sheet for you that must be filled out at that time. You
will be charged for any damage or vandalism that occurs during your stay (we
donÕt anticipate any, weÕre just being up front with you...), so this sheet
will help to avoid any questions about the condition of your room when it comes
time to check out. All Room Inspection Sheets should be returned to the
All-State Registration desk immediately before you go to your rehearsal areas.

DORM ROOM ASSIGNMENTS...
For
security and emergency contingency reasons, the room you are being assigned to
is the room you MUST remain in. Your teachers were given the opportunity to
request specific assignments and the end result is our very best effort at
accommodating them. With as many
students as All-State involves however, you do not have the option of taking
matters into your own hands, nor
is there tolerance for playing Òhide and seekÓ with you. If you switch
rooms with another student for ANY length of time, your parent will be notified
to immediately drive to Gorham and remove you from the premises.
