In addition to the Maine Learning Results VPA requirements of Chapter 132 (for all students), each School Administrative Unit is now (school year 08-09) required to establish a plan for the implementation of gifted and talented arts programs. These g/t programs will address the needs of the top 5% of students identified as gifted and talented in the arts in grades K-12. The plan must be submitted to Cliff McHatten at the Maine Department of Education by November 30, 2008. Full implementation will take place in the 2009-2010 school year. A booklet with detailed information on the requirements and resources is posted at http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/vpa/standards.html This should be a helpful resource for G/T coordinators and arts educators.

ALL EASTERN BOCJ - IMMEDIATE ATTENTION! There have been issues with some teachers regarding getting students registered for All Eastern BOCJ. There are different parts to the process, each requiring a different link: the kids page, the teachers page, and some can't be accessed. Sam contacted the webmaster and he sent her a list of teachers who had nominated students. Some teachers are not on the list because they didn't complete the process. PLEASE CHECK WITH SAM MOORE-YOUNG ABOUT YOUR STUDENTS!
