MAINE LEARNING RESULTS- YOUR FEEDBACK IS NEEDED!!

If you attended the “At the Creative Center: The Arts in Maine Schools” conference and participated in the MLR session you had a chance to give me your questions and concerns about the recently revised standards. I have collated the information and will be answering your questions and posting the answers in the arts newsletters and on the MMEA and MAEA websites. As the Department prepares to support Maine educators in their understanding and application of the 2007 Maine Learning Results documents, my colleagues and I are collecting feedback on the following:

What 2 professional supports would be most helpful to guiding your understanding and use of the 2007 Maine Learning Results documents?

On November 12 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time in Washington, DC, MENC leadership will be on hand for the release and dissemination of results from a brand new Harris Poll on the impact of music education on our society. "Little Steven" Van Zandt, Bruce Springsteen band member and "The Sopranos" star, will lend his support to the poll release by making an appearance at the event. The release of this poll is timely, given MENC's recent efforts to improve music education's standing in the upcoming reauthorization of the No Child Left Behind Act currently being debated by Congress.

Already the poll has garnered a significant amount of media attention from print, radio and television outlets, so be certain to watch for further event coverage during the evening of November 12. Because MENC has played a prominent role in the development and analysis of this new Harris Poll, we are thrilled to be offering our Legislative Memo subscribers an exclusive firsthand look at the results, available as of Monday, 11 a.m. Eastern Time, to be followed by a video summary of the press conference. All of these materials will be accessible through www.menc.org -- stay tuned for further details!

The Camden Hills Regional HS is producing Footloose this Fall. We would like to extend a special FREE showing to interested school groups on Wed., November 14th - beginning at 12:30 PM. It's an early release day for us...so we won't be pulling students out of school to offer this event. Also, it will double as our brush dress rehearsal before our second weekend of shows. Right now I don't have a running time...but I'm guessing 2 1/2 hours with a short intermission. First come - first serve! We have 800+ seats....so I hope alot of people take advantage of this FREE show! Please email kim_murphy@fivetowns.net to reserve your seats.
